Winter Events Around Three Forks To Plan For

Winter Events Around Three Forks

Small-town Montana ups the ante when it comes to winter fun. In and around Three Forks, you’ll find the charm all through winter and beyond, with these seasonal events that make snowy weather even better.

Candlelight Tours

The annual tradition of Candlelight Tours through Lewis & Clark Caverns brings a whole new view to this underground wonderland. You’ll gather your lanterns and head three-quarters of a mile up to the cave entrance. Once you reach the halfway point in the cave, the candles are lit and the lights go off for an utterly otherworldly experience. While the candlelight tours will not be held in 2018 as the park works to revamp its lighting system, 2019 will bring them back with a bang. Call the park to reserve your spot in advance. These popular tours typically take place during the three weekends of December leading up to Christmas.

Christmas Stroll

The Three Forks Christmas Stroll takes place on a Saturday in early December, lighting up the town with twinkle lights, and featuring sleigh rides, carolers and the famed candy cane lane to celebrate from 4 to 10pm. You’ll want to walk around to check out local businesses and snag a photo with Santa. Get out and enjoy the town fun for the whole evening, or just dip in on your way to dinner to check it out.

Library Events

Arts and crafts events at the Three Forks library make it easy to get in the spirit of the season. Make a turkey from a book that’s seen better days, get into paper-based wreath making or see what other events are on offer. This will let you get in touch with quaint local community, even when you’re only in town for a quick visit.

Holiday Brunch at Pompey’s Grill

Enjoy a taste of winter without ever having to leave the hotel with the Pompey’s Grill Holiday Brunch at the Sacajawea. This smorgasboard of delightful treats will satisfy your palate and propel you into the holly jolly season of holiday foods. This is the perfect topper on a romantic morning for two, or as the fun bonding time in a family outing.

Butte Ice Sculpting Contest

It’s worth venturing a little farther afield for the Butte Ice Sculpting Contest. The hour drive seems like nothing when you can look forward to experiencing wild and wacky ice sculptures from amatures and the pros alike. In fact, if it strikes your fancy, you can even sign up to participate yourself. Just let the organizers know in advance, and plan to bring your own sculpting tools. Whether you want to observe or get your hands dirty, this early-December Saturday event begins at 9 am, with all sculpting to be finished by 3 pm. Awards are handed out that evening at 6 pm.

Virginia City Splendid Feast

The Elling House Arts & Humanities Center in Virginia City hosts its annual Splendid Feast in December. Experience this historic home decorated for the holidays, awash in twinkle lights and evergreen boughs. The intimate dinner by candlelight includes live piano music, a selection of mead, wine and cider, and hearty culinary delights to enjoy with friends and loved ones. Buy tickets in advance to experience this unique local offering.
